First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (“FQM”), a fast growing mining and metals company, is engaged in mineral exploration, development, mining and refining. FQM operates mines in Africa and has projects in Australia, South America and Finland. FQM is listed in the Toronto and London Stock Exchanges. FQM Kevitsa Mining Oy is a subsidiary of FQM. Kevitsa Ni-Cu-PGE Mine is located in Sodankylä, Finland. Mine construction is under way and the production will start in 2012.

Job description:

• Provide Operational and Metallurgical support to ensure optimum process plant performance

Responsibilities:

• Ensure that Safety protocols and Operating Procedures are followed;
• Maintain the metal accounting system for the Mine;
• Evaluating process performance to identify and initiate development opportunities;
• Provide technical support and training on process unit operations on a daily basis to operations personnel to maximize production and efficiencies and optimize costs;
• Design and execute test-work to determine optimal operating conditions and scale-up to plant;
• Review plant design for debottlenecking and efficiency/operability improvement and initiate, and provide financial justification for, related capital projects;
• Report on plant activities and performance indicators;

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy/Mineral Processing/Chemical Engineering
• English advanced

Experience:

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in metallurgical process operations and/or R&D/design preferably in the base metals industry and Copper/Nickel milling and flotation circuits, in particular.

Personal characteristics:

• Strong understanding of metallurgical process improvement and control strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants;
• Good analytical skills for identifying process shortfalls, bottlenecks and implementing metallurgical testing;
• Supervisory skills with ability to delegate and motivate the team towards achieving production targets;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate accurate transfer of information in both an upward and downward direction. Must be able to assemble data and provide management with clear and accurate plant performance reports;
• Familiarity with EU workplace health and safety and environmental procedures and legislation policies,
• Experience with work permit systems and safe work procedures to control maintenance activities and manage hazards associated with mining and chemical plant operations.
